The Week of September 4th

 The Blue Jays Weekly Newsletter

Work Plans

Work plans go home every Friday. Please sign your child's work plan and return the following week. These go home every week to inspire conversation about what your child is doing in school.

Amira Testing

Students will be completing Amira testing this week. If your child has access to a device at home, they can practice reading with the Amira tutor by logging in to Classlink and choosing the Amira icon. This activity should take about 5 minutes a day.

Homework

The lower elementary classes have the following homework expectations:

Read for 20 minutes each night, either independently or with family members.

If you have access to technology at home, your child can follow their i-Ready learning path.

Math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication or division)

Welcome Vega!

Thanks to the Bhonsle Family, our class is now caring for the  guinea pig Vega!

It is very important that all families sign up for our community Remind!  Please text @ac3c9 to number 81010 or if you are having trouble with 81010 try texting @ac3c9 to 971-239-4842  (Please sign up!)

The classrooms can be cool at times.  It is a great idea to send a sweater or sweatshirt, labeled your child's on the tag, in their bookbag. According to administration, students will not be allowed to wear hoodies in school.

Please send in a water bottle labeled with your child's name for them to keep at school throughout the week for when they get thirsty.  The weather is HOT and the children can become extremely thirsty at recess and throughout the day.

Please be sure to login to PowerSchool and sign your student's technology permission slip.  You may also want to purchase a protection plan.  It is highly recommended that the computers remain at school where they can remain fully charged and ready for use each day at school.

This year, the children will be traveling to explorations on Tuesday mornings.  Be sure to send your child to school in shoes that will work well for them in P.E.  For those new to the school, the children have art, music, PE, Spanish, Technology, and Engineering with the exploration teachers in one morning each week.

The Week of August 7th

The Blue Jays Weekly Newsletter

We have had an amazing start to our school year! Children have been learning procedures and working on many grace and courtesy lessons. These skills are the key to a peaceful, independent group of children.  The children are making strong connections with each other and this week we will be working on the first great lesson: The Coming of the Universe!  This is a wonderful way to spark curiosity in the classroom.

The children are excited to serve their snacks and clean up afterwards.  If you have not already done so, please send in a Kroger gift card for healthy snack selections.  $30 for the semester or $60 for the year.  Also, if you would like to help with the shopping for snacks, please send a Remind or email and we can send a card home for you to use to shop over the weekend for the following week.

The Week of July 31st

Weekly Newsletter

We are delighted to be back in Room 29 and look forward to seeing all of our families this week!  It is with great pleasure that we invite you to observe and volunteer in the classroom after the first several weeks of the normalization process. There is an open invitation for all families to come in and observe our learning environment. This gives families a better understanding of what is happening in the classroom and can help to open dialogue between students, families, and teachers. We welcome volunteers to come in and read, cook, and complete activities with the children. As the weeks progress, we will keep you posted on when the children will be ready to receive visitors to the classroom.  Of course, we will wait until the SCCPSS has given us approval for visitors.  At that time we encourage parents to come and enrich our classroom culture. (All volunteers must complete the Beacon screening process prior to spending time with the children.)

Please plan to drop by Room 29, on Monday, August 1st between 4 and 6pm, to take a look at the classroom and meet the teachers. Feel free to drop school supplies off at this time.
