The Week of October 30th

  The Blue Jays Weekly Newsletter

Autumn Observations

We are asking that all families come in to observe our community at work. Our goal is to provide a loving, respectful, and supportive environment in which children will blossom.  Observations begin this week and will take place on Wednesday and Thursday mornings through December 15th. Please use this link to schedule your observation of the Blue Jay Learning Community today.

Our first field trip of the year will take place Monday, October 31st! We plan to be at North Beach on Tybee at 9:30am. If your family would like to join us there, we would love to have you! Picnic lunch to follow. Your child should come to school in uniform with sunscreen and bugspray (if necessary) already applied. Please do not send microwaveable lunches.

PTA Read-A-Thon

The 11th annual PTA Read-A-Thon will take place November 1-30th. This year, we are raising funds to replace outdated books in the media center's cultural curriculum collection.

Any student who raises $100 or more will receive a $10.00 gift certificate to the Scholastic Book Fair, which will take place in the media center the week of December 1-8, 2022.

You can find more information about this on the PTA Read-a-Thon page of the Ellis website.
Thank you for your support and happy reading!

Pumpkin Fun
Blue Jays read books about pumpkins and measurement last week in the classroom. They estimated the number of seeds in our class pumpkin based on what they learned. Students carved our pumpkin Friday and will count and eat roasted pumpkin seeds Monday.

The classrooms can be cool at times.  It is a great idea to send a sweater or sweatshirt, labeled your child's on the tag, in their bookbag. According to administration, students will not be allowed to wear hoodies in school.

Please send in a water bottle labeled with your child's name for them to keep at school throughout the week for when they get thirsty.  The weather is HOT and the children can become extremely thirsty at recess and throughout the day.

Please be sure to login to PowerSchool and sign your student's technology permission slip.  You may also want to purchase a protection plan.  It is highly recommended that the computers remain at school where they can remain fully charged and ready for use each day at school.

This year, the children will be traveling to explorations on Tuesday mornings.  Be sure to send your child to school in shoes that will work well for them in P.E.  For those new to the school, the children have art, music, PE, Spanish, Technology, and Engineering with the exploration teachers in one morning each week.
