The Week of October 20th

 The Weekly Newsletter

Dia de los Muertos

Last year, our class learned about this tradition and created an altar in our classroom to honor our ancestors. This was such a beautiful and meaningful experience that we'd like to do it again. Next week, we will collect pictures of deceased family and friends to add to the altar. We will begin the celebration on November 1. Please send in photos of your deceased loved one with your student beginning October 28th.

Weekly Math Fact Practice

Students received their math fact practice on Friday along with their learning log/work plans. They will practice the math facts at home and be assessed on Friday mornings for one minute. The goals: 1st- 10 correct per minute, 2nd- 15 correct per minute and 3rd-25 correct per minute. We have filled out an example of the weekly expectations. First, students will fill in the fact families, then each day they will complete the appropriate column on the flipside of the sheet for practice. Students will be tested this Friday morning on the fact families that went home last Friday.

The Week of October 13th

 The Weekly Newsletter

Dear Families,

We are so sorry for the late notice about our field trip to PACK this Tuesday. We were waiting for the field trip to be approved before sending out permission slips and, due to the storms, that did not happen until Wednesday. Please sign and return the slip with your child when they return to school on Tuesday. If your child's form has been misplaced, please use this link to the digital copy to print out and sign.

P.A.C.K. is a non-profit committed to meeting the basic needs of children in our local community.  They are also committed to inspiring the next generation of volunteers!

Weekly Math Fact Practice

Lower Elementary is using a new program for math fact mastery called Morningside Math Facts Fluency. The program focuses on fact families. Each week, students will focus on three fact families. All students are starting on addition and subtraction. The ultimate goal is for students to know which numbers make up a family. We have filled out an example of the weekly expectations. First, students will fill in the fact families, then each day they will complete the appropriate column on the flipside of the sheet for practice. Students will receive their math fact practice on Fridays to take home along with their learning log/work plans. They will practice the math facts at home and be assessed on Friday mornings for one minute. The goals: 1st- 10 correct per minute, 2nd- 15 correct per minute and 3rd-25 correct per minute.

SEND IN YOUR TOILET PAPER ROLLS!

Please send in toilet paper rolls by Wednesday for a special project!

Family Observations

Again, we are sorry for any inconvenience the rescheduling of some of your observations has caused. If you have to reschedule or if you haven't scheduled your observation yet, please use this link to do so now. Our goal is to provide a loving, respectful, and supportive environment in which children will blossom. Family understanding of Montessori philosophy plays an important role in supporting our educational approach. We would like to invite families to sit in and observe our class during the morning work cycle. If you haven't yet scheduled, please use this link to schedule your observation of our community. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Observation Expectations

There are clipboards with observation checklists at the entrance of Room 29. Please take one and use it to help guide your observation. Upon entrance to the classroom, please quietly find the observation chair and have a seat. We ask that you stay seated in the observation chair and try not to engage the children in conversation. If a child asks who you are or what you’re doing in the class, a polite “Hello, I’m ____. I’m here to watch you and your friends work.” is appropriate. When you leave, please return the clipboard with the observation checklist and pencil to the basket by the door of Room 29.  We look forward to seeing you!
