Ellis Night at Panera!




PTA Meeting 
Due to Hurricane Idalia, the first PTA meeting of the new school year is rescheduled for Wednesday, September 6th, at 6:30pm in the Multi-purpose Room. Pizza will be provided by the PTA. If you have not yet joined PTA, please do so at this link. iReady testing did not go as planned. Some students finished the math assessment, some students were unable to complete the assessment, and others were unable to log in. This week, students will take the reading portion on Tuesday, September 5th. We will finish the math portion on Wednesday, September 6th and makeups are scheduled for Thursday, September 7th. Fingers crossed that it all goes smoothly! Thank you to all the families who have sent in headphones! If you have not done so already, please send them in ASAP.

This week, all students will be participating in iReady testing.  The Math portion of the assessment will be taken on Tuesday, August 29th.  The Reading will be on Wednesday, August 30th. Thank you to all the families who have sent in headphones! If you have not done so already, please send them in ASAP. Make Up testing will happen on Thursday, August 31st.  Please make sure that your child gets a good night's rest, a healthy breakfast, and arrives to school on time.
 


The children will have an e-Learning half day on Friday, September 1. Please look for an email with more information about the e-Learning half day this week.






Homework

Homework went home last Tuesday. Your child should take their homework out of their folder on Tuesday and return their empty folder to class Wednesday morning. We will not be collecting homework, but your child should bring in anything that you/they do not understand. All children will receive math fact practice (+x÷) and will be tested on their math facts weekly in school. Students should be reading nightly!

School picture day is Wednesday, August 23rd.

This is a FREE dress up day. Students should abide by the "Acceptable Dress for Non-Uniform Days" guidelines on page 18 of the 2023/2024 SCCPSS Student Code of Conduct.






Homework

Homework went home last Tuesday. Your child should take their homework out of their folder on Tuesday and return their empty folder to class Wednesday morning. We will not be collecting homework, but your child should bring in anything that you/they do not understand. All children will receive math fact practice (+x÷) and will be tested on their math facts weekly in school. Students should be reading nightly! 





Snack

The children are excited to prepare their own snacks and clean up afterwards.  If you have not already done so, please send in a Kroger gift card for healthy snack selections.  $35 for the semester or $70 for the year.  



Technology

Our community received their devices last Monday. Your child only received their device if you filled out the "Student Device Loan Form" in PowerSchool. We strongly recommend that you purchase the $25 insurance.  A cracked screen will cost $90 without the insurance. The deadline to purchase insurance is 8/31. Please follow this link for more information.

Explorations

This year, the children will be traveling to explorations on Tuesday mornings.  Be sure to send your child to school in shoes that will work well for them in P.E.  For those new to the school, the children have art, music, PE, Spanish, Technology, and Engineering with the exploration teachers in one morning each week.



Children will receive Montessori's First Great Lesson this week! The First Great Lesson is usually shared close to the first day of each school year in elementary. It's designed to give students a sense of their place in the Universe by learning about the stars, the Sun, the planets, how Earth was formed, states of matter, particle behavior, and much more.

The Learning Community had a terrific first two days of school! We have enjoyed being with the children so much! Our community lessons have focused on classroom and school procedures, as well as grace and courtesy. This week, we will begin academic lessons while continuing with community building activities. 



Homework

Homework will begin next week. It will be in your child's take home folder every Tuesday. We will not be collecting homework, but your child should bring in anything that you/they do not understand. All children will receive math fact practice (+x÷) and will be tested on their math facts weekly in school. Homework begins August 15!


Technology

1st-8th grade students are assigned a Chromebook to use for assessments, classwork, research, etc. These devices are left at school unless there is a scheduled SCCPSS e-Learning day or special circumstance.
