The Week of August 11th

The First Great Lesson
The community experienced Montessori's First Great Lesson on Friday!

Homework
Homework will begin this Tuesday. It will be in your child's take home folder every week on Tuesday. Traditionally, homework is not given in the Montessori community, but we are sending it so your child has the option to practice reading and math skills outside the classroom. We will not be collecting homework, but your child should bring in anything that you/they do not understand so we can help. Eventually, but not this week, all children will receive math fact practice (+ーx÷) and will be tested on their math facts weekly in school. Students should also be reading nightly!

Reading Logs
"100 Ways to Raise a Reader" reading logs will go home on Tuesday, as well. Your student should try to check off as many different ways to read as possible. Please email us pictures of your student reading and we will share them with the class and post them in the newsletter. In the past, children read recipes and made delicious food. Others listened to podcasts, made shopping lists, and read to their siblings and pets!

Online Forms

Student Device Loan Forms
Every student will get a device that stays at school. Before your student receives their device the "Student Device Loan Form" needs to be filled out. If you haven't done so already, please fill out the "Student Device Loan Form" in PowerSchool as soon as possible.
Go to:
  • SCCPSS.com
  • Families Tab
  • Student and Parent Tools
  • PowerSchool Parent Access
  • New parents can sign up and/or recover a previous account if you forgot your password within minutes.

Explorations
This year, the children will be traveling to explorations on Tuesday mornings.  Be sure to send your child to school in shoes that will work well for them in P.E.  For those new to the school, the children have art, music, PE, Spanish, Technology, and Engineering with the exploration teachers in one morning each week.
