The Week of October 27th

  The Weekly Newsletter

Ellis Media Center

Book Character Tissue Box Challenge

This week, students can decorate (and donate) a tissue box as their favorite book character. Every student who brings a decorated tissue box to the Media Center will be entered into a drawing for a gift certificate to the book fair in December!

Dia de los Muertos

This week, we encourage each student to bring in a picture of a deceased family member to contribute to our ofrenda (altar).
The ofrenda will serve as a beautiful tribute, allowing us to celebrate the lives and memories of those we cherish. Please ensure that the pictures are labeled with the name of the person and the relationship to your child, as we want to honor each individual appropriately. Thank you!

Weekly Math Fact Practice

Students took their first one minute timed test on Friday. If they met the goal, they received new fact families to practice this week. If not, don’t worry—they’ll continue practicing the same three until they do. They are encouraged to beat their score from the previous week. Students will see how much they improve every week! The goals: 1st-10 correct per minute, 2nd-15 correct per minute, and 3rd-25 correct per minute. Below is an  example of the weekly math fact practice expectations at home.

The Week of October 20th

 The Weekly Newsletter

Dia de los Muertos

Last year, our class learned about this tradition and created an altar in our classroom to honor our ancestors. This was such a beautiful and meaningful experience that we'd like to do it again. Next week, we will collect pictures of deceased family and friends to add to the altar. We will begin the celebration on November 1. Please send in photos of your deceased loved one with your student beginning October 28th.

Weekly Math Fact Practice

Students received their math fact practice on Friday along with their learning log/work plans. They will practice the math facts at home and be assessed on Friday mornings for one minute. The goals: 1st- 10 correct per minute, 2nd- 15 correct per minute and 3rd-25 correct per minute. We have filled out an example of the weekly expectations. First, students will fill in the fact families, then each day they will complete the appropriate column on the flipside of the sheet for practice. Students will be tested this Friday morning on the fact families that went home last Friday.
